Sea The Stars retirement claim 'rubbish'

• Decision yet to be taken on Breeders' Cup participation• Reports dismissed as 'a cock and bull story' by trainer Reports that Sea The Stars has been retired because of an insurance problem have been rubbished by his trainer John Oxx. The colt, widely regarded as one of the greatest racehorses in history after his Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe victory on Sunday, could yet travel to America for one final race. It was reported in the Sun this morning that Sea The Stars had "become so valuable he cannot get insurance cover". According to the story, the colt's owner, Christopher Tsui, "will not risk a colt worth at least £60m travelling uninsured halfway round the world‚" and the horse had therefore run his last race. But the suggested difficulty was dismissed as "a cock and bull story" by Oxx as he assessed yearlings at an auction in Newmarket. "I'd say it's a great load of rubbish," the trainer said, though he stressed that insuring the horse was handled solely by the owner and was no part of his responsibility. "It would be insured [already], there's no extra insurance for travel," added Oxx, who indicated that a decision has yet to be taken as to whether Sea The Stars will line up for the Breeders' Cup Classic in California next month.
