As a player he won the League Championship with Leeds United and a F.A.Cup medal with Manchester United. Gordon Strachan is the only player to win Player of the Year both in England and in Scotland. So it was no surprise to anybody when Gordon went into coaching, his first job was at Coventry where he did okay keeping them in the premiership on a couple of occasions but when they went down to the first Division in the 2001 season and because of a poor start to the next season for Coventry City Gordon Strachan was sacked. For many new managers this would of been hard to swallow, but with Gordons never give up attude, this turned out to be the best thing that could of happened for Southampton Football Club because when he arrived his job was to keep the Saints in Top Flight football which he did in his first season and just look what he has done now. The Saints have one of the best home records in the League and they might even get into Europe with a bit of luck this is a job well done. Everything was going according to plan for the Saints until Strachan announced midway through the season that he was to stand down in May to take a break from football. That started plenty of speculation about who would take over from him, and in February 2004, he decided to leave early and was replaced by Steve Wigley, until the end of the season. I for one realy hope this is not the end for Gordon Strachan in football and would like to see him return one day.
